Gilsonite sealcoating means applying a finished pavement sealer formulated with Gilsonite to an asphalt surface. Gilsonite is the solid natural-bitumen ingredient; it is not itself a liquid coating or a sealcoating machine. The coating’s performance depends on the whole formula, the pavement condition and correct application.
Why use Gilsonite in a sealcoat formulation?
Manufacturers may use Gilsonite as a carbon-rich, dark asphaltite component in a sealer binder. It can contribute to the desired color and binder behavior, but no single benefit or service-life figure applies to every formula. Read the finished product’s technical data sheet and seek field evidence for claims about weather resistance, wear or adhesion. Is raw Gilsonite the same as a driveway sealer?
No. A ready-to-use sealer includes a formulated binder and other ingredients, plus instructions for spreading and curing. Asia Gilsonite supplies Gilsonite powder and other raw grades for industrial buyers. If you want a packaged driveway coating, obtain it from a finished-coating manufacturer or distributor. How should a finished sealcoat be applied?
Inspect and clean the pavement, repair cracks with a suitable repair product, and follow the sealer manufacturer’s instructions for surface dryness, weather, mixing, application rate, curing and traffic reopening. Spraying, squeegeeing or rolling may be appropriate depending on the product and site. Do not rely on a universal coverage rate, drying time, minimum temperature or rain-resistance claim for all Gilsonite-containing coatings. A sealcoat is a surface treatment; it cannot repair structural pavement failure.
Which grade should a formulator test?
