Gilsonite Price per Ton | Grade, Packing & Freight Factors

Gilsonite price per ton in 2026 depends on grade, ash content, particle size, packing, order quantity, delivery term and destination. Gilsonite is not traded through one universal commodity exchange, so a reliable price must be based on an exact product specification and comparable Incoterm.

Asia Gilsonite produces and exports natural bitumen for drilling fluids, asphalt modification, inks, coatings and other industrial applications. Buyers can request a current bulk quotation after confirming the technical and commercial requirements listed below.

What determines the Gilsonite price per ton?

1. Grade and ash content

Commercial Gilsonite grades are not interchangeable. Asia Gilsonite commonly supplies grades around 10% and 15% ash, while lower-ash material can be prepared when the application genuinely requires it. Lower ash normally requires more selective raw material and processing, but the lowest ash is not automatically the best choice for every formulation.

2. Particle size: lump, coarse powder or fine mesh

Lump Gilsonite, coarse powder and controlled fine-mesh products have different processing costs. Crushing, milling, screening and particle-size control influence the final quotation. Fine grades such as 200 mesh are commonly requested for drilling-fluid applications, while asphalt and other industries may use different particle sizes. Review our Gilsonite powder and mesh guide.

3. Moisture and laboratory requirements

Maximum moisture, softening behavior, solubility and other acceptance criteria may affect material selection and quality-control costs. A quotation should therefore be compared against the same specification and test method. See our Gilsonite grades and specifications and Gilsonite analysis.

4. Export packing

Standard export packing can include 25 kg AD Star bags. A common consolidated arrangement is 35 bags inside one jumbo, giving a net jumbo weight of 875 kg. Alternative labeling, pallet requirements, bag construction or loading patterns can change the packing and handling cost.

5. Order quantity

Production setup, testing, documents, inland transport and export handling include fixed costs. For this reason, a full commercial order normally has a more efficient unit cost than a small trial quantity. Quantity must always be stated when requesting a Gilsonite price.

6. Incoterm and destination

EXW, FOB, CFR and CIF quotations cover different responsibilities and costs. Inland transport, customs handling, port charges, ocean freight, route availability and destination requirements can change independently from the product price. Two offers should only be compared when the specification, packing, quantity and Incoterm are equivalent.

Gilsonite price by application

The intended use affects the most suitable grade and therefore the price basis:

  • Drilling fluids: buyers commonly specify fine mesh, controlled ash and moisture limits.
  • Asphalt and road construction: grade, particle size and softening characteristics should match the mix design and project testing.
  • Ink, coating and resin: compatibility, fineness and application-specific analysis may be more important than selecting only by ash.
  • Foundry and other industrial uses: the required specification should be confirmed before commercial comparison.

Information required for an accurate bulk quotation

To receive a comparable and usable quotation, please provide:

  • intended industrial application;
  • target ash content or required grade;
  • particle size or mesh;
  • maximum moisture and any required test values;
  • packing and labeling requirements;
  • total order quantity;
  • destination port or city; and
  • preferred Incoterm, such as EXW, FOB, CFR or CIF.

If the specification is not complete, start with the application and expected quantity. Our team can identify a suitable supply option before pricing. For the complete purchasing process, read our guide to buying Gilsonite in bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one international Gilsonite price?

No. Gilsonite does not have one universal exchange price. Grade, mesh, packing, volume, origin, Incoterm and freight all affect the final price per ton.

Why is low-ash Gilsonite more expensive?

Lower-ash material generally requires more selective mining, raw-material control and processing. Buyers should specify the ash level required by the formulation instead of paying for a lower grade limit that may not provide an additional benefit.

Does Gilsonite powder cost more than lump material?

Controlled powder requires crushing, milling and screening, so particle size can affect processing cost. The difference depends on the requested mesh and quality-control requirement.

Can you quote FOB or CIF?

Quotation terms depend on the destination, route availability and confirmed order details. Provide the destination port and requested Incoterm so the product and logistics components can be stated clearly.
