Gilsonite Powder: Grades, Mesh Sizes and Industrial Uses
Gilsonite powder is natural Gilsonite that has been crushed, milled and screened to a controlled particle size. Grinding increases surface area and makes the material easier to disperse or blend into drilling fluids, asphalt and bitumen systems, coatings, inks, resins and other industrial formulations.
Asia Gilsonite produces and exports powdered natural bitumen in different ash grades and mesh sizes. The correct grade depends on the application; buyers should specify the required particle size, ash content, moisture limit and quantity.
How Gilsonite Powder Is Produced
Natural Gilsonite ore is selected, crushed, ground and screened to achieve the required particle-size distribution. Quality control focuses on the characteristics that matter commercially, including ash content, moisture and mesh. The finished powder is then packed for industrial shipment.
Gilsonite Powder Mesh Sizes
Particle size is selected according to the customer’s formulation. Coarser powder can suit some asphalt and industrial uses, while finer grades such as 200 mesh are commonly requested for drilling-fluid applications. Asia Gilsonite can prepare different particle-size ranges according to order requirements.
Before ordering, compare the required mesh with our Gilsonite specifications and grades and Gilsonite properties.
Gilsonite Powder Grades and Ash Content
Gilsonite is a natural material, so ash and other analytical values vary by deposit and selected grade. Asia Gilsonite commonly supplies commercial grades around 10% and 15% ash, with lower-ash material available for applications that genuinely require it. The appropriate grade should be selected by performance requirement rather than assuming that the lowest ash is always necessary.
Gilsonite Powder Uses
Drilling Fluids
Fine Gilsonite powder is used in oil and gas drilling-fluid systems where it can contribute to fluid-loss control, wellbore stability and sealing of micro-fractures. See Gilsonite for drilling fluids.
Asphalt and Road Construction
Powdered Gilsonite can be blended with petroleum bitumen or asphalt mixtures as a natural asphalt modifier. Grade and dosage depend on the binder and performance target. See Gilsonite for asphalt.
Paint, Ink and Coatings
Selected grades are used as a carbon-rich resinous component in black coatings, paints and printing-ink formulations where compatibility with the binder and solvent system is important.
Foundry, Resin and Other Industrial Uses
Gilsonite powder is also used in foundry formulations, resin systems, pipe coatings and other applications. Explore the complete Gilsonite applications hub.
Packing and Export Supply
Our standard powder packing is 25 kg bags, which can be consolidated inside protective jumbo bags for export handling. Packing and container loading can be adapted to the agreed order and destination.
